Pumpkins for Pigs!

The Eco-Team at Christ the King wants your leftover Halloween pumpkins.  Simply bring your pumpkins to school on Thursday, November 2nd, and place them beside the dumpster.  This is a one day only event.   Instead of throwing them into the compost, the pumpkins will be picked up and taken to Power Farms in Ayr.  The delicious pumpkins will be upcycled to help feed the pigs and chickens.  We can’t wait to see the video of those animals gobbling them up.

Note: Please no pumpkins with paint or other harmful decorations.

Thank-you for supporting this Eco-initiative.

On Tuesday October 31st, we are inviting students to wear black and orange in the morning and dress up for Halloween during the afternoon.  Staff will give some time after lunch for students to get dressed.  Students will also participate in a Halloween parade where everyone can enjoy the creativity and fun in all of the costumes.  In order to ensure that all of our students enjoy their day, there are a few guidelines that we would like all students to follow with respect to costumes:

  • Masks that cover the face or fake weapons of any kind are not allowed.
  • Extremely graphic or gory costumes (including blood) are not allowed as we have young students who might be afraid.
  • Costumes should be simple enough for students to manage independently
  • Costumes should not interfere with classroom activities.  Students must be able to sit, walk, see, hear, etc..

Please remember that since students will be trick or treating in the evening, non-food items such as stickers, pencils, glow bracelets, etc. are often preferred items!  Please remember we are a peanut and nut free environment.    Thank you so much for your cooperation and we are looking forward to a”spooktacular” day!!!

Signs, Gates and Patrols

We ask that all parents take caution when driving their children to school. Please always slow down and be aware of students walking to school.   There is no parking in the ring road.  Please enter far drop off your child quickly and exit to keep the traffic flowing.   Please do not block the school driveways or turn around in them as this is dangerous to all and it is a fire route. Please leave the handicap parking spots for those who have permits.

We have several students and staff attending Christ the King School with a severe allergy that can cause an anaphylaxis reaction. An anaphylaxis reaction is an allergic reaction so severe that it can cause death. These children have a severe allergy to Peanuts /Nut Products.   We also have children/staff with sensitivity to scents.  Since these children can react to trace amounts, inhaling or ingesting even minute amounts can trigger a life threatening reaction. Emergency treatment involves immediate drug injection and an immediate trip to the hospital.

These children with this allergy are showing admirable restraint and maturity in dealing with their problem. They are taught not to share any food because of a possible reaction. All of us need to do what we can to provide these children with a safe learning environment. Although this may or may not affect your child’s class directly, we respectfully ask that you make every effort not to send food products to school that contain or may contain peanuts, peanut butter or nut products, remembering to check ingredients carefully.  Your understanding is sincerely appreciated.
