2020 Faith in Action Elementary Skills Challenge Days

Important Information Re: 2020 Faith in Action Elementary Skills Challenge Days

Dear Parents / Caregivers,

Due to ongoing job action undertaken by the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA) — and the teacher supervision requirements associated with the Faith in Action Elementary Skills Challenge Days — the Skills events scheduled for March 4th and March 5th, 2020 at Conestoga College have been cancelled/postponed.

The school board is currently looking at alternatives to the original event and will communicate these with schools as they become available.

As a school system that places a high emphasis on innovation and experiential learning we are very proud of the preparation students have done up to this point and are encouraged that the skills they have built will continue to be applied in their classes and beyond.

We also thank you for the support you – as our partners in education – have offered the students in terms of volunteer driving and supervision during the many workshops that have already occurred.

While students, parents, and staff are bound to be disappointed with the cancellation of this year’s Faith in Action Skills Challenge, we thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through challenging times.

We continue to remain hopeful for a fair, negotiated resolution to the current labour disruption and the WCDSB Skills Team continues to look for innovative ways to keep our students engaged in their learning.

Lent-Banner

This Wednesday is Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent.  As a school community, we will be marking our foreheads with the sign of the cross at our Ash Wednesday Celebration.  The ashes are burned palms from last year’s Palm Sunday and we wear the cross on our forehead as a sign that we need to repent or be sorry.  When we are marked with the ashes, we will “Turn away from sin and be faithful to the Gospel”.  During Lent, we will be focusing on three practices:

  1. Fast
  2. Pray
  3. Give (Almsgiving)

Be fasting, giving, and praying, we deepen our relationship with God.  Please join us at 1:30 pm for our Ash Wednesday celebration!  All are welcome!

Wednesday is Pink Shirt Day and time to take your kindness to new heights! This Pink Shirt Day, and every day, let’s Lift Each Other Up!

The theme for this year’s Pink Shirt Day is “Lift each other up”; a simple but powerful message encouraging us to look beyond our differences and celebrate the things that make us unique. When we lift each other up, we see past the things that separate us and see instead the things that unite us as people.  Don’t forget to wear your pink shirt on WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 26!!!!!
