More February News from CTK!

Love and friendship were certainly celebrated on Friday!  Thank you to all who helped support our Candy Grams.  As a school, we raised $339.00 which will go directly to help sponsor an athlete for the Special Olympics Spring Games that will be happening in May in Waterloo.  THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Labour UpdatesJust a reminder that this Friday, February 21st, OECTA has announced that they will engage in a one day strike.  All schools will be closed.  The Extended Day Program will remain open.

Shrove Tuesday is coming soon.  On Tuesday February 25th, we will once again be serving pancakes and syrup to mark the last day before Lent begins.  In order to reduce waste and plastic, students will need to bring in a reusable plate or container and a fork!  Paper plates will not be available.  Students are encouraged to bring in a ziplock bag so that they can bring their plate and fork back home.   Thanks for your help and for helping CTK be an ECO school!

Please join us on Wednesday, February 26th for our Ash Wednesday liturgy at 1:30 pm in our gym.  All are welcome!

Pink Shirt Day:  From its humble beginnings in 2007 in small-town Nova Scotia, Pink Shirt Day has spread across the globe as a way to take a stand against bullying and to show support for those who have been affected by it in schools, workplaces, homes, and online.  Last year alone, people in almost 180 countries shared their support of Pink Shirt Day through social media posts and donations.  On February 26, 2020, we encourage everyone at the Waterloo Catholic District School Board to practice kindness and wear pink to school or work to symbolize that you do not tolerate bullying. The focus for 2020 is “lift each other up.”

All Waterloo Catholic District School Board Schools Closed on Friday, February 21st 2020

Labour Updates:

All Waterloo Catholic District School Board Schools Closed on Friday, February 21, 2020

The Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA) has announced that all of its members will be engaging in a one-day strike on Friday, February 21, 2020. This decision affects all Catholic district school boards in Ontario.

As a result of this strike, all Waterloo Catholic District School Board elementary and secondary schools will be closed on February 21.

All programs offered at the WCDSB’s St. Louis Adult Learning & Continuing Education Centres will be cancelled on February 21 —  with the exception of Personal Support Worker programs, which will run on their normal schedules.

All WCDSB extended day programs will be open for the day as usual (7 a.m. to 6 p.m.) for students currently registered in the program.

Community use of schools activities will continue as scheduled.

OECTA’s previously announced job actions will remain in effect before and after February 21.

As before, we remain hopeful the two sides will return to the bargaining table quickly and will come to a fair and respectful agreement that serves the best interests of our students

Week of February 10, 2020

Congratulations to our Intermediate students who received the Sacrament of Confirmation this past Friday.  Many thanks to you the families, Mr. Herod and Father Ross Campbell for your guidance and support during the students’ preparation.   Special thanks to Bishop Miehm for bestowing them with this special sacrament!

Candy Grams! This year, we are selling candygrams!  Students are able to purchase a candygram – a red sucker with a personalized message- and send them to their friends at school.  All proceeds of candygrams will go to sponsor an athlete for the Ontario Special Olympics Spring Games that are happening in the Waterloo Region in May.  For more information about the Ontario Special Olympics,  click here.    Candygrams can be purchased through school cashonline and are only 5 for one dollar!  All candygrams will be delivered to the classrooms on Friday, February 14th.    Don’t forget to wear RED, WHITE or PINK on Friday!

You’re invited!!  On Wednesday, February 19, 2020, Fr. Joseph de Viveiros C.R. will be celebrating Mass for staff, students and parents from the Waterloo Catholic District School Board. This celebration will bring a close to our Board’s Pastoral theme from this past year, Called to Belong. While our gathering at St. Anthony Daniel Parish will close one chapter, it will also give life to this coming year’s Pastoral theme, Gathered to Become.

Mass will be celebrated at 4:00 p.m. at St. Anthony Daniel Parish in Kitchener.  A reception in the Parish Life Centre will immediately follow Mass. We anticipate that each school community be represented at this upcoming celebration. We are inviting all staff members, and students along with their parents to join us for this celebration of faith.

Snowballs and Snow Creations:  We are asking for your help again this year in getting our students to understand that snowballs are not permitted. There are fewer things more dangerous than a snowball to the eye. While snowballs can be fun at home in one’s backyard, on a schoolyard with unassuming youngsters, a snowball is extremely dangerous, especially to the eye.

Parents, I need your help. Please sit down with your child and reinforce with them that Snowball throwing at school is NOT permitted and in fact is extremely dangerous. We take your child’s safety very seriously, and as much as we want our children to have fun in the snow, and there will be plenty of opportunities for fun in the snow, snowballs can NOT be part of that fun!  Please also talk to your child about respecting other students’ forts, snowmen, and other snow creations!  Thanks in advance for your help.
