Important Update for Families and Students

Dear Bobcats!

We hope you and your families are well during this challenging time.  We are all working together to adapt to these unprecedented conditions and we wanted to share some important information and resources.

First Holy Communion and Reconciliation:  Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 and the current state of affairs within our province and country, First Confessions scheduled for April 18th and First Holy Communion scheduled for  May 30th have been canceled for our Grade 2 students.  We have been informed that students will receive these two sacraments in the 2020-2021 school year when they are in Grade 3.  We realize that this is very disappointing news as we know that preparations  have begun for our students and families to receive these sacraments and to celebrate this very special day.   Please know that as we receive information, we will forward it along to you.

Daily Mass With Father Ross Campbell:  As you know, public celebrations of the Mass are not taking place until further notice.  However, now more than ever, it is so important to continue to practice and strengthen our faith.  Please continue to pray together as a family and also practice meditation.  You can also join Father Ross Campbell digitally to celebrate mass.  Please visit the link below for a live stream of daily mass.  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCTQryY0nCQc4SusV9YKXhXg?view_as=subscriber

Teacher Contact About Distance Learning:  Teachers have been reaching out to families over the past days to find out if families have the means to stay connected through a device and/or internet access.  Please continue to check messages, Google Classroom, etc. and respond with the necessary information so that we can plan for teacher-led distance learning.  Stay tuned for more information!

Well-Being-Supports:  These times can be stressful so please know there are many resources to help support you and/or child. Please let us know if you need any assistance.

Take good care of yourselves and your families  We miss you Bobcats!

I hope everyone is safe, healthy and doing well under this time of social distancing and self-isolating.   The staff at CTK certainly miss all the students and look forward to returning to the class when we are able to!   Stay well and God bless!

As we move into the school closure until April 4th, you may be looking for things for your children to be doing at home.  On our Twitter page (@CTKBobcats), several resources and ideas have been posted.  There are a number of posts and links to Math, Language, Art, well-being, and Faith activities and lessons for your use.   Attached also is a letter from the Minister about COVID-19 as well as information about an online learning portal that will be available for students.

Cancellation of EQAO Testing & Introduction of WCDSB #STEAMDays

The COVID-19 situation in Ontario is continuing to evolve and WCDSB is committed to keeping you informed. As updates are available or new questions emerge, we are posting to our Board website.  We encourage you to continue checking there for updates.

Please be aware that the Minister of Education has provided direction to cancel all Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) assessments for the 2019-20 school year. The Minister has also directed that the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) be waived as a graduation requirement, as set out in Section 6 of Ontario Schools, Kindergarten to Grade 12: Policy and Program Requirements, 2016, for students who are otherwise able to graduate in the 2019-20 school year. These changes provide the conditions to enable students to fulfill graduation requirements in our current context.

The government and WCDSB remain committed to ensuring learning will continue for our students. The Ministry and WCDSB will be posting online learning resources, and we encourage you to stay tuned for more about this resource and other distance learning supports and opportunities.

At WCDSB we are also launching #STEAMDays – a fun and interactive way to keep the learning happening at home as we work our way through the unprecedented COVID-19 shutdown.

Please view the VIDEO to learn more.

In times like these, it is vital for one and all to come together – and #STEAMDays will provide a convenient platform for parents and educators alike to share ideas, resources and fun ways to keep the learning process going.

As ideas are shared, we will gather some of them and post via our website: www.wcdsb.ca/STEAMDays

COVID-19 School Closures and Cancellations

March 13, 2020

As a result of the Government of Ontario’s order for all publicly funded schools in Ontario to remain closed from March 14, 2020 to April 5, 2020 (https://news.ontario.ca/opo/en/2020/03/title.html), the Waterloo Catholic District School Board is taking the following actions to further assist in limiting the spread of COVID-19:

  • Effective March 14, 2020 to April 5, 2020 all WCDSB schools (including all St. Louis Adult Education campuses) are closed.
  • Effective March 16 all Extended Day programs are cancelled. Families registered in WCDSB operated programs will not be charged fees during this time period.
  • Effective March 14, 2020 to April 5, 2020 all Community Use of Schools permits are cancelled.
  • WCDSB Co-op placements, Dual Credit and SWAC programs are cancelled.
  • The March 23, 2020 public meeting of the Board of Trustees is cancelled. Any delegations pertaining to the St. John CES Boundary Review will be received as planned on Monday, April 6 at the regularly-scheduled Board Meeting, and again at a Special Public Board Meeting on Monday, April 20, 2020.
  • The March 26, 2020 Blessing & Dedication ceremony for the newly-renovated Waterloo Region Catholic Education Centre is postponed to a later date to be determined.

The safety and wellbeing of our students and staff is always our top priority, and we will continue working with local Public Health staff to ensure our schools remain clean, safe and welcoming in anticipation of the resumption of school in April. We encourage everyone to remain vigilant regarding hand hygiene and cough / sneeze etiquette and to follow all Public Health guidance and directives.

We ask all WCDSB stakeholders to continue monitoring our special COVID-19 web page for up-to-date information (https://www.wcdsb.ca/covid-19-coronavirus-updates/)  — and our prayers continue for all those around the world who have been or will be affected by COVID-19.
