Attendance Procedures

Dear CTK Families;

It is very important that if your child is ill,   has a medical appointment or will be late for any reason, that you contact the school with the necessary information: Full name and grade, room number, teacher and reason your child(ren) will be away.

Our school has an answering machine in-service 24 hours a day. Please note that we must receive a call from a parent/guardian or caregiver. Our number is 519-621-6680. Please avoid trying to pick up your child during the lunch hour for appointments.

Just a friendly reminder that school starts at 8:30 am sharp and students should enter through there designated door with their class and teacher.

As part of our Safe School Arrival Program we need to ensure that all students are accounted for and are safe.

Thank you for your support

Take care and Be Safe!

Thank you for taking the time to state your choice and for assisting us in having the staffing, resources, and programming in place to assist the ongoing learning and success of your children.

Shrove Tuesday also known as “pancake day” is the day before Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent. Due to Covid-19 protocols we will not be able to serve pancakes at the school this year.  However, our AWESOME staff will make this day special and we look forward to pancakes returning next year when we are all through this pandemic together.  We hope your family decides to a have Pancake Supper to get caught up in this fun Pre-Lent tradition!

Ash Wednesday, February 17th, 2021, begins the Holy Season of Lent. We will be celebrating a Liturgy of the word, however, we will not be distributing ashes this year.    The Diocese is encouraging parents to bless their children by tracing the Sign of the Cross on their foreheads, marking the beginning of the annual Lenten journey in lieu of the distribution of ashes.   During Lent, we will be focusing on three practices:  fasting, praying, and almsgiving.

First Term Report Cards:  First term report cards will be coming home with your child this Friday and contains an evaluation of your child’s achievement of Curriculum Expectations, Learning Skills and Work Habits. This report describes your child’s achievement through letter grades or percentage marks and teacher comments. It is based on the focus for teaching and learning during the period of September to the end of January.  When reviewing the report card, you and your child may wish to consider the following questions:

Students – as you look to concluding this term and setting goals …

  • What is something that you did well this term?
  • What represents your best work this term to date?
  • How do you need to improve this term?
  • What will you do to improve your work or your effort?

Parents/Guardians:

  • What area did you notice your child improve thus far in the term?
  • What did you see your child doing well?
  • What steps will you take during the next term to help your child?

A heartfelt thanks to our amazing teachers and staff team for their work!

MARCH BREAK POSTPONED:  With the Minister’s announcement on February 11th, March Break will be postponed until the week of April 12th.

Cold Weather and Inclement Weather Procedures:

This past week we experienced some very cold temperatures.  Just a reminder to ensure that your child comes to school with mitts, hats, snow pants, and boots!   If the temperature allows, we will still go outside at recess and lunch.  Our “Weather Policy Memo states that if the temperature is between -16 to -19 we will shorten recess to no more than 15 minutes.  If it hits -20, we will cancel recess and stay inside.  Please dress for the weather.   Also, please bring back your indoor shoes so that you have something to wear in the classroom.

In the event of severe weather, please listen to the local radio stations for school closure or bus cancellation information beginning at 6:45 a.m.   For the 2020-2021 school year, schools will be closed to students on days where busses are cancelled due to inclement winter weather.  School closures are necessary on such days to maintain the integrity of the student class cohorts.   Additionally, all cancellation updates can be found on the WCDSB website (wcdsb)  under the “Cancellations” tab.  When schools are closed due to inclement weather, work will be posted on your child’s Google Classroom by 9:30 am. It is expected students will work asynchronously throughout the day and teachers will be available for assistance until 12pm.
