What Parents Need to Know – About Roblox!

Thank you for checking out What Parents Need to Know Week #3 – Roblox
This week we will take a closer look at the global platform where millions of people gather together every day to imagine, create and share experiences with each other. Roblox is a safe gaming platform for kids when parents take the recommendations from our experts seriously. Making it a rule that kids play Roblox in a shared family space where you can supervise their activity is the best way to ensure their safety. Roblox’s free and open communication policy means that kids’ interactions can vary widely, from legitimate player engagement to iffy. It is recommended for age 13+ based on continuing challenges with problematic content. Account restrictions are turned on and parents should pay close attention to their kids’ activities on the platform.

Posts and chats are filtered for inappropriate content and personal information references if a user is 12 or younger, and parents can restrict their child’s chatting capabilities. It is recommended that parents disable the chat functionality as a protective measure when they can’t supervise their kids’ play. We also recommend setting a four-digit PIN code that is required to make any changes to a child’s account (preventing kids from giving themselves broader access) and change the security settings to allow kids to access only a curated list of age-appropriate games.

Jesus said, ‘I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies,” John 11:25

Sunday, March 28th is Palm Sunday. We celebrate Palm Sunday as we begin a very special week in our faith,  Holy Week. May we be reminded of its significance…a very important day in history, when Jesus began His journey towards the cross. Let us be thankful for the gift of His sacrifice, celebrating the power of the Resurrection, and the new life found in Him.

Last week we started a school-wide approach to Social-Emotional Learning using the Tools for Life program. During morning announcements we reviewed a calm down strategy of Four Square Breathing and the tool of Active Listening. Please take a look at the attached family letter for more information. We hope to review a new tool each Thursday and our fabulous Child and Youth worker Mr C. will review, practice and have discussions with small groups about how and when to use the tools.

Please consider taking a look at the Tech Tips that are sent via School Messenger and Twitter each Tuesday. The simple monograph is a great way to find out more about the apps our students are using at home.

Tech Tips Tuesday & Fire Drill Today

Good afternoon Bobcats!!

Today we had the 4th Fire Drill of the school year. We followed all COVID protocols including exiting through appropriate doors and maintaining social distance. The Fire Drill was very well done by the whole Bobcat community.

Please take a look at the Tech Tip attached to learn more about what parents need to know about Among Us. Among Us is a gaming application that many of our students are familiar with. It is a game that is played at home, rather than at school.

Stay safe,

Sherry MacDonald

Principal

Tech Tips Tuesday – What Parents Need to Know about Snapchat

Good morning Bobcats!!

Once again I find myself so impressed with the fantastic Bobcat community.

In an effort to keep us all safe and informed I would like to send out weekly information about Technology.

Many of our students are turning to online platforms and applications for entertainment and to connect with others virtually. With an ever-changing world, it is hard to keep ahead of things. So, each week I will share information about a popular platform that is being used. Please take a look and discuss this with your student.

We have a clear policy around Student Acceptable Use of Outside Technology Equipment. Personal electronic devices may only be used when directed by a teacher and only in conjunction with a school-related activity.

This week we will look at Snapchat. Please note that the age restriction is 13 years old.

2021-2022 Transition to Virtual School Survey: March 15 to March 19

Dear Bobcat Families,

Please complete the following survey for any family that wishes to choose virtual learning for next school year. The choice for virtual will be a choice for September through June, there will not be transition periods during the year.

Realizing that the landscape continues to change, we will confirm your choice with you in June (through one final survey open to all), but we will be seeking your interest now, so we can determine the demand for the virtual option.  If you register for St. Isidore, our virtual school, you will no longer be affiliated with your current home school, (for the 2021-2022 school year).  You will have the option to re-register for the following school year (2022-2023).

Survey Date: March 15th @ 9 a.m. to March 19th @ 6 p.m.
