COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH LINKS FOR FAMILIES: As Omicron numbers climb and schools return to virtual learning, you may be looking for information that can be shared with students and their families to ensure they know how to promote wellbeing and where to reach out if they need support. Students in our Board, Grades 4 to 12 will have the opportunity to participate in a Ministry created School Climate Survey (Feb. 22 to March 11). The Waterloo Catholic District School Board is committed to providing safe, caring and inclusive places for everyone in our schools. One way that we can find out how we are doing is to ask students about their health and well-being. To collect this information, we will administer the Middle Years Development Instrument (MDI). This anonymous, online survey has been developed by researchers at the Human Early Learning Partnership (HELP) at the University of British Columbia (UBC), and the administration of the MDI will be facilitated by the WCDSB Research Department. Remote Learning for January 31-February 11

We are grateful in-school learning is still going strong! But we do understand some families may need a different short term option … Just a reminder that the next two-week opportunity for the remote learning option is approaching. That period will take place from Monday Jan. 31st, ending Friday Feb. 11th, 2022.

A student/family who chooses this option will be committing for the full 2-week period (10 school days). This means that you will not be permitted to return until the two-week period has ended as our School Monitoring and Attendance System needs to identify our students as either:

Attending School (in your child’s classroom at CTK)
Remote Learning (learning on line for a 2 week block)

Near the end of this two-week period, the WCDSB will re-evaluate if this strategy needs to continue. Once that decision is made, we will communicate it to you.

Please note that all requests for the next two-week option, from Monday January 31st to Friday February 11th, must be made to both the classroom teacher and the office. Please ensure that you let both the classroom teacher and the office know that you are exercising this option before the end of the school day tomorrow, Friday January 28th.

We understand that these are challenging times and we are grateful to be able to give our families options to support their specific needs – Thank You!

Holocaust Remembrance Day

Thursday, January 27 is Holocaust Remembrance Day. The Holocaust, also known as the Shoah, is one of the darkest moments in human history. From 1933-1945, the Nazi Germany regime was responsible for the systematic, state-sponsored, persecution and mass murder of six million Jewish People and 5 million non-Jewish people because they were classified by the regime as racially or biologically inferior. This included Roma and Sinti People, LGBTQIA, people with disabilities, Slavic Peoples and Afro-Germans.

As we work towards a deeper understanding of systemic oppression, learning about the Holocaust presents an opportunity to develop an understanding of how systems and policies can lead to discrimination and genocide, and impact a community for future generations. Equally, as we witness the increase in antisemitism or anti-Jewish hate in Waterloo Region and the wider community, learning about the Holocaust creates a space to grow in allyship with the Jewish community, learn from their resilience and work collectively against harmful ideologies.

Kindergarten registration has started!!

Grade 8 Families – Your child will bring home a course selection sheet and information pamphlet courses. Please complete the course selection sheet and have your child return the sheet as the information will be entered into My Blueprint at school. If you have any questions regarding the course selection process, please contact your child’s classroom teacher. Grad photos will be held on Friday January 28th. Flyers with more details will be shared.

Decision to Remain Online: We want to continue the learning for everyone and thus, WCDSB is offering a short window of remote learning, should you wish to choose that option. This option is for a two week block, from January 31 – February 11. Please notify your classroom teacher and Mrs. MacDonald sherry.macdonald@wcdsb.ca if you would like your child to learn remotely for this period.

At this time, it is important to remember to be compassionate with yourself and others and to just do your best – it is all anyone can ask of you and you, and given these very challenging times, you are doing great! Please continue to treat yourself with kindness, grace and patience. This too shall pass and we will get through this tough time together! Should you need anything at all we are always just an email or phone call away.

Grade 8 Graduation Photo day Coming Soon!

Dear Grade 8 Parents/Guardians;

Just a reminder that Grade 8 Grad photos will be on Friday, January 28, 2022.

Please click on the links below for more information and if you would like to purchase a Grad composite please complete order form and have your child bring in the order form along with the money to the photo session on the Friday. (only form and money required if you would like a composites). Composites are 11 X 14 and cost $20.00 Plus Tax.

Possibility of pivoting to remote

Dear Parents / Guardians:

As we continue working to provide a safe and healthy learning environment for our students – while also strictly adhering to all public health guidance concerning COVID-19 screening and isolation requirements – we will, from time to time, experience some challenges in ensuring an appropriate number of school staff are available to ensure the safety and security of all.

We would like to let you know that this could periodically result in the need to switch some classes from in-person learning to virtual learning for short periods of time. Unfortunately, due to certain COVID-19 implications currently involving school staff, we may need to switch your child’s class from in-person learning to virtual learning. This is certainly not a preferred option, but please know that it may come to being the only option available. After the most recent period of government mandated virtual learning, we understand that this is not welcome news, and we assure you that we are striving to resume in-person learning for your child as soon as possible.
