Reminders For the Week

Reminders for the Week:

It’s hard to believe that we are already at the beginning of October! Fall has arrived and we welcome the cooler weather! This week, we recognized Truth and Reconciliation Week, where schools across Canada engaged in age-appropriate educational activities to raise awareness of the residential school system and how its legacy affected Indigenous Peoples and shaped the country we live in today. Truth and Reconciliation Week was launched by the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation and will culminate in the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (Orange Shirt Day) today, on September 30th.

Wow…our Terry Fox Run was a spectacular success!  Thank you to all the staff and students who participated in the terry Fox run/walk last week.  Thank you to the generous donations on behalf of the school, as we raised over $200.00.

On Sunday, October 2 it is National Custodial and Maintenance Workers Recognition Day. We would like to say a huge THANK YOU to Mr. Pimentel and Mr. Jenkins and all our Board Custodians and Maintenance Workers.  The role of the school custodian has changed immensely over the course of the past couple of years. We can’t thank our custodial staff enough for their hard work, their dedication to the job and their continued role in the safety of all.

Here are some Reminders:

Reminders for the Week

Reminders for the Week:

Thank you for another great week of school! The students are settling back into the school routines and our grade ones are adjusting to being with the bigger students. The students are happy to see one another and play together. Primary and Junior students continue to enjoy our new playground equipment. We will also be getting new playground equipment in the Kindergarten area and the plans are already in the works for this area.

We had an exciting week for students who participated in the intermediate three-pitch teams as well as our junior co-ed soccer team. Our coaches were so happy to see all the students who are signing up to play!

We are excited to welcome new students to our school. Every new child adds their own unique gifts and talents to our school community. As enrollment fluctuates, classroom changes and movement may occur. As previously communicated, class placements in September are always tentative to start the year. We will keep you updated if any movement happens as directed by the Board.

Day of Truth and Reconciliation – Friday September 30

Bobcats will be celebrating Day of Truth and Reconciliation (formerly known as Orange Shirt Day) on September 30th. Orange shirt day’s purpose is to recognize the impact of the Residential school system for First Nations, Metis and Inuit families and communities. It is a show of support and understanding of the history of the school system that impacts many First Nations, Metis and Inuit people today. By wearing an orange shirt, we have an opportunity to bring awareness to the history of residential schools and to stand up against other injustices that may impact our children/students. Let’s turn our CTK hallways ORANGE!

Student Safety is our Number 1

We are having a great first month at Christ the King!  There is a lot going on and there are definitely challenges to overcome.  I am so glad to see so many routines already in place and everyone helping our community by following them. There are two things that we need to work on for the safety of our community.

One thing we do need to get a little better at is the number of parents coming onto the yard in the morning.  Please understand that we have staff outside supervising the children and we need your help!  Give your kids hugs and kisses.  Tell them you will miss them.  Wish them well for the day.   Please do all of this BEFORE you come onto the yard.  Drop them off and continue with your day.  Staff will be out there to remind you of this, but with your help and support, we will be able to make our yard much safer for everyone.

This applies to the end of the day as well.  Please wait for the children by the gate, by the back path, on the parking lot side of the building, or better yet, on the sidewalk out front.  Being on the blacktop, is not necessary and not safe.  Please help us out with this.

The other thing we ask for your assistance in is Parking during drop off or pick up. We ask that you first encourage your child to walk. It is a wonderful way to re-connect with your child all the while getting fresh air and some exercise. If you must drive your child(ren) to school, please do not enter the driveways of the school or block the entrances of the school. Thank you to all of our community members, who, in spite of being less convenient , comply with our request to stay out of our staff parking lot and ring road. Safely park on the street obeying any parking signs. Just a reminder that at the beginning of the day and the end of the day, the parking lot is CLOSED TO ALL CARS for pick up. It is great to know that so many of you care about your children’s safety, just like we do. We want to make sure your children are safe arriving to school and you can help us out by following this. We need to all work together to keep our kids safe!

Once again, thank you all for your support and cooperation as we all get used to a new year, a new flow in the building, and as we get back into the regular swing of things.

Take care, Bobcats
