Reminders for the Week

Reminders for the Week

It was a week of celebration. We celebrated our Lunch Hour Supervisors and our Social Worker and all that they do for our community at Christ the King and we had a March Spirit Week where each day we did something fun to wash away the winter blues. From the feedback that I received, Comfy/Pyjama day seemed to be the biggest hit with Bobcat students.

The students really enjoyed Q Mack and his presentation about FNMI. He was really engaging for students and overall a fun time.

This is the final week of school before March Break. We wish all our Bobcat families a relaxing vacation.

March Break Begins

March Break is a WCDSB holiday from March 13 – March 17 and there is no school for students. Please note that Christ the King is not able to offer extended day during this week, but parents can contact the WCDSB for information about other sites that are offering Extended Day. Enjoy the well deserved break, Bobcats!

Social Worker Appreciation Week!

The Staff and students at Christ the King would like to take the opportunity today, to say a huge THANK YOU to all our Social Workers and a special THANK YOU to Ms. Grosz!  Ms. Grosz, your contributions to our school community are often overlooked and understated, but we want to let you know today, and this week especially, that your role on our team is valued!  Your commitment to our students when they are at their most vulnerable and your willingness to support the many adults in our buildings, demonstrate that you are here for us!  Knowing that someone like each of you are there to support us is reassuring and comforting.  Your role is vital to the success of our system, and we wanted to make sure that today especially, you know how thankful we are for YOU, Ms. Grosz!

Earthquake Fundraising: Today is the last day!

As many of you know, WCDSB has a long tradition of fundraising to assist relief efforts when natural disasters strike.

The devastation of the recent earthquake in Turkey and Syria has once again called us to action.

While rescue and recovery efforts continue, it has already been confirmed that more than 35,000 people have died.

Many thousands more — including many current refugees — are in desperate need of shelter, food, clean water, and medicine.

Consequently, the Senior Team and Board of Trustees would like to invite all WCDSB students and staff to participate in a centralized fundraising campaign via the Canadian Red Cross (operating under the umbrella of the International Red Cross).

Donations of ANY AMOUNT will support the range of emergency services the Red Cross is delivering to those in need including interim housing, clothing, food, and other essential supplies.

All fundraising efforts will be collected centrally using the following link: Donations – Earthquake in Turkey & Syria

How to Participate:

·         The deadline to participate is Friday, March 10

·         The link will deposit the funds into a central board office account

On-Going Fundraising Program

We’re very excited to announce that we’ve chosen to be a part of the Plantables Fundraising Program for 2023. With the weather warming up and many of you thinking about rolling up your sleeves and getting back into the garden, it’s a great time to help us spread the word of this great fundraiser.

What Is Plantables?

Plantables is an exciting family-owned company based in Forest, Ontario that grow healthy, hardy and happy fruit and vegetable plants.  The best part is, they ship them DIRECTLY to your door, when you want them!

That means that no matter how busy you are, how unsuccessful (successful!) you’ve been at growing plants before, you’ll be able to grow brag-worthy fruits and veggies!

All you have to do is pick what plants you want to grow, choose when you want them delivered and wait for your box of garden-ready plants to arrive on your doorstep. Shipping weeks are available from April- June and you can order any time before that.

How does the program work?

All you have to do is help spread the plant love! Tell everybody you know to go to plantables.ca and make sure they enter the code CTK at the checkout or follow our direct link plantables.ca/for/ctk

We’re really excited to be launching a fundraiser that involves growing healthy fruits and veggies and spending time as a family!  There is a minimum order requirement of 6 seedlings as they ship in multiples of 6 – if you are still interested in taking part but have an order smaller than 6 plants or if you require more information, please contact CTKPlants@gmail.com.

Thank you for all of your support, we can’t wait to see what you grow!

The section on Lunch Routines, should have read as follows:

Lunch Routines

It is best if your child comes to school with their lunch and snacks every day, however, if you are delivering your child’s lunch to school, please do so between 10:40 a.m. and 11:10 a.m. When lunches are delivered late, it reduces the amount of time that students have to eat. Please also write your child’s name on his/her lunch bag and deliver it to the main office. Thank you for your support. For safety reasons, if a student is going home for lunch, a written request signed and dated in your child’s agenda or a separate note from you is required for each occurrence. Unless you have indicated that your child goes home every day.

Reminders for the Week

It has been exciting times at Christ the King School. We gathered as a community for our Black Heritage Month Assembly. Our Grade 2 students celebrated their first Confession at St. Patrick’s Parish. We celebrated Shrove Tuesday with the enjoyment of pancakes thanks to the efforts of our school council/ parent volunteers. Bobcats really enjoyed this delicious treat – thank you to all who made this possible! On Ash Wednesday, we gathered together as a faith-filled community for our Ash Wednesday liturgy. We reflected upon how Lent is a time of prayer and preparation for Easter, the holiest of the liturgical seasons. Students and families are encouraged to think about how they can prepare for this special time in our faith lives.

Once again, we would like to thank you for your ongoing support! Working in collaboration with our families really makes a huge impact and helps us make our school a great place to learn and grow. Please take time to watch this 3 minute video about Lent: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xo1mjuy1NA0

Attendance – Use our 24 hour hotline 519-621-6680

Please note that Liz is off on a medical leave for an extended amount of time. We ask that you do not email Liz with your child’s attendance to respect her time off and that you instead  use our 24 hour Attendance hotline – 519-621-6680. Thank you for your cooperation. Please keep Liz in your prayers.
Thank you CTK Lunch Hour Supervisors: Ms. Semedo and Ms. Bridgman!

Christ the King Staff would like to say a huge THANK YOU to our Lunch Hour Supervisors, Ms. Semedo and Ms. Bridgman!  They are outside in the rain and the cold, they cover our classes for us and MOST importantly, they build relationships with our entire school community!  Christ the King would not be the same without you, Ms. Semedo and Ms. Bridgman, and we are so thankful for you! You are truly superheroes and today we want to say THANK YOU!

PHN Introduction to Bobcats

Hi! My name is Muriel Vandepol,  a Public Health Nurse from Region of Waterloo Public Health.  I have been given the opportunity to work with the Christ the King school community. My role is to listen and learn from all members (staff, students, parents) of this community to build on school strengths and help the school  identify where there are opportunities to work together and further strengthen the school’s ability to provide a sense of connection for all.

I am excited to be working with you and the whole school community. Please feel free to stop and say hello when you see me at the school. I welcome the opportunity to start and continue the conversation on how to continue to strengthen this great school.

Looking forward to building further connections,

Muriel
