Reminders for the Week

This week we celebrated the first week of Advent. Advent is a time in which we prepare for the coming of Jesus. At CTK, we will celebrate each week of Advent, every Monday, with school wide liturgies and the lighting of the Advent Candle. The first candle is the candle of Hope. The lighting of the candle is not a passive act. It reminds us that we too are the light as Jesus said in Mathew 5:14. We can shine a light in dark places, providing kind gestures or kind words to those in need. Over the next four weeks, we will continue to prepare our hearts of the coming of Jesus!

Classes at CTK are going to be ELF’ed!

Each class will receive the poem below and a treat. It will be so much fun for students to figure out which class elf’ed them and which class they will elf!

Christ the King – CHRISTMAS FOOD DRIVE!

This Christmas we will be giving back to our community by collecting food items for our Local Cambridge Self Help Food bank.

At Thanksgiving we did an amazing job at giving back and we truly made a difference. Let’s make a difference again this Christmas for people who need it most!

Some items that are most needed:

  • Peanut Butter
  • Individual Fruit Cups for kids to bring to school
  • Canned meat and fish
  • Pasta Sauce
  • Canned Pastas
  • Pancake mix
  • Syrup
  • Cereal

ANYTHING is greatly appreciated, and we are thankful for our Bobcats generosity and your willingness to give back to those in need.

Is your child in need of Winter Wear?

We have a school that will provide us with donations of scarves, hats, snowpants, coats, mittens and some boots. Please contact the office if your family could benefit.

Winter is Back!

I hope you were as excited as I was to see the snow this week!  It is so fantastic to think of how different the seasons look in Canada – we are truly blessed! This seems like a good time to remind everyone of a few essentials when coming to school in the wet, snowy weather. Please make sure your child has a pair of INDOOR SHOES.  We will be changing our shoes when we come inside the classrooms so that we can help to keep our spaces clean and dry.  Wet socks make for a long day! Please make sure to have a hat and mitts packed each day.  We will be outside for recesses including the 40 minutes at lunch.  Please note, we do not have a school nurse or staff to supervise students who request to stay indoors.   We may be able to brave the cold for a short time, but it will wear on those not dress properly after a while.  Dress warmly! Please bring a jacket or coat.  That’s right, this is a reminder as well.  We have lots of friends on the yard that do not want to bring coats and jackets.  It is so important to dress appropriately for the weather. Lastly, a quick check of the weather before school will help to be prepared.

In the colder winter months, depending on the severity of the weather there are times that we shorten our time outside or do not go out at all.

  • When the temperature is between -20°C and -27°C students will not be outside longer than 15 minutes.
  • When temperatures are colder than -27°C, students remain inside

EQAO Results:

Last spring, our students in Grades 3 and 6 participated in the provincial assessments of reading, writing and mathematics that are directly related to the Ontario curriculum. These assessments were conducted by Ontario’s Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO). Individual Student Reports with a covering letter explaining the assessment will be sent home today with our grade 4 and 7 students.

EQAO assessments are another source of information about student learning. As a school community, we examine the results, highlighting strengths and areas to improve upon. After examining results, if you have any questions, please contact the classroom teacher or office.

Progress Reports and Conferences

Progress Reports went home on November 21st and followed up with a conference on November 24th. We really appreciate parents taking the time to come into the school and conference with your child(ren)’s teacher. It takes a village to raise a child and we are so appreciative of your support. If you were not able to come to your designated time, kindly contact your child’s classroom teacher to set up an alternative time.
