Yearly Archives: 2024

Reminders of the Week – May 3

Here are some Reminders:

“I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me you can do nothing.” John 15:5

It is hard to believe we enter into May this week! As we embrace the blooming spring, let’s also embrace the opportunity to finish the year strong. With determination and perseverance, let’s channel our energy into making these final months of the academic year truly memorable. Keep on the journey of growth and success to make every moment count!

Safety Drills for Bobcats

It has been a great safety review month here at CTK as the students and staff participated in Lockdown, Tornado and Fire Drills. We just wanted to take a moment to tell you how PROUD we are of our students.
During the Fire Drill, all students followed safety protocols and evacuated the building quickly with everyone cooperating and reaching their meeting spots in record time. Way to go!
During the Lockdown Drill, all the classroom doors were locked, lights were off, and the building felt empty. And the Tornado drill was a success with student’s able to sit in a safe area, precisely what we were aiming for.

Staffing Update:

We say a sad good-bye to Ms. Wakeford in Grade 7 who is moving on to another position in the board (Friday May 10). We welcome back Ms. Duque to Grade 7 after her maternity leave.

As a school and faith community, we will continue to support these students and walk alongside them on their faith journey.

Please do not send birthday or other celebratory snacks / cakes / treats into the school. There are many alternatives such as stickers and pencils. We will not be accepting or handing out treats for celebrations. We appreciate the cooperation of the entire school community. We want Christ the King Catholic School to be a safe environment for all students.

Medication

School staff cannot administer medication, including aspirins and Tylenol without a “Request and Consent for Administration of Medication” form, completed and signed by a doctor. It must be in the original container that is labeled, including the instructions and conditions that are to be followed for the administration of the medication for the safety of the child. All medication is stored in the office area. The only exception to this requirement has to do with any child who, because of life threatening allergies (i.e. Asthma), must carry medication.

Today is Administrative Assistant’s Day!

The staff and students at Christ the King would like to say a huge THANK YOU to Ms. McIntosh today on “Administrative Assistant’s Day”.  YOU are the face of our schools.  The first smile that our students and families see when they come to us.  YOU are the medical expert, giving ice, providing tissues and paper towels, handing out medication and inhalers.  YOU are the mental health experts, calming bodies, minds, and hearts with ease.  YOU are the ones that our students go to for everything they need; the ones that all staff go to for everything they need; and the ones that our Administrators go to for everything we need.  YOU at the one.

Today we take the time to thank our Administrative  Assistant, Ms. McIntosh! We thank Ms. McIntosh for her welcoming smile that greets us each and every morning. You are appreciated at Christ the King and want to celebrate with you on your special day!

Reminders of the Week – April 19

Here are some Reminders:

“May the Lord always give us hope for the future and the strength to keep going.”Pope Francis

Hopefully, the April showers are behind us, and now we look for April to bloom around us!  Let us take a moment to express gratitude for the resilience and dedication of each member of our school community. We have an unwavering commitment to learning. Let this month serve as a reminder of the beauty of new beginnings and growth. May we continue to embrace the spirit of renewal and nurture a culture of kindness, curiosity, and collaboration within our school. Wishing you all a joyful and fulfilling rest of April.

Grade 7 Confirmation:

Please keep the Grade 7 students in your prayers as they celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation, tomorrow, Saturday, April 20th – St. Patrick Church 11:00- 12:30 with Bishop Crosby.

Grade 4- 8 Presentation: Parent Viewing

On Tuesday, our grade 4 – 8 students had the opportunity to hear a wonderful speaker and message. Dwayne Morgan spoke to our students in a speech and poetic performance on the following topics: responsibility, social media, phones, race, making good choices, respect between genders, healthy connections and more. It is my hope that parents would take the time to watch this talk and talk about it with their children; it is well worth your time and should benefit your child and even your family relationships. The link will remain posted on YouTube until Sunday night and might be the best thing your family watches or listens to this week. Here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcCWFNQZHyo  Please note that the broadcast was filming much before Dwayne took the stage, please fast forward to the 25:45 mark of the video.

Cell Phones At School: Not recommended

We are reaching out for your continued support in your child’s positive school community and academic learning. We strongly encourage cell phones and ear pods are NOT brought to school. Should a student NEED to bring a cell phone it should be turned off during the day and in their school bag. The only time cell phones are permitted to be used during the school day is with an exception, with teacher permission. We have Chromebook devices for instructional purposes, so cell phones are not needed. We have phones in the office and all classrooms, any communication with students during the day should go through a teacher or the office. Should a student bring a cell phone and/or ear pods to school and they are using them without permission they will be directed to the office and a call home may follow as well.

Cell phones are a normal part of life for many kids. Staying in touch with friends is important to preteens and teens. However, if phone use is getting in the way of family time, homework, and other responsibilities, it might be time to help your kid manage their phone time too. Here are a few great places to start if you are looking for resources too.

Are You Moving?

To help us with our planning for next September, it would be appreciated if you could let us know now, if you will be moving out of our school area over the summer. If you know of any families moving into the area with children who plan to attend Christ the King, it would be helpful if you could alert us. The more information we have, the better we are able to organize staff and students for September. Thanks!

Drop Offs/Pickups: We kindly ask that students make every effort to arrive at school on time for our 8:30am starting bell.  Students can arrive as early as 8:15am to the backyard.  Unfortunately, we continue to see as many as 30+ students trickling in after the bell for approximately a half hour.  Not only is this reflected in their attendance record, we know that when students arrive on time they are able to socialize with peers and walk into class with their friends ready for school.

In addition, while we understand that unforeseen circumstances can arise, we often have to call families at the end of the day due to late pick- ups.  We do not have staff who can supervise students past our bell time.  Supervision and safety past 3:00pm is the responsibility of parents/caregivers. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
