Reminders for the Week April 26

Here are some Reminders:

“As stewards of God’s creation, we are called to make the earth a beautiful garden for the human family.” Pope Francis

Congratulations to our Grade 7 students who celebrated their Confirmation on Saturday surrounded by family and friends at St. Patrick parish. Thank you to our families, Grade 7 teacher and Father Joe for working with the students to help prepare them for this important sacrament. As a school and faith community, we will continue to support these students and walk alongside them on their faith journey.

Staffing Update

Ms. Reale’s family is growing and we wish her all the best on her time off with her new child. In her place we welcome Ms. Forde. Ms. Forde has a wealth of knowledge in the intermediate division and we think she will be a great addition to CTK!

CTK Food Drive for The Cambridge Food Bank

The Cambridge food bank is in need of food items. In particular, they need breakfast foods (i.e. Cereal, pancake mix, syrup), pasta sauce, canned meats, canned vegetables, and snacks for kids (i.e. fish crackers, granola bars). Please send in what you can so that we can help out those in need. We are collecting items until Friday June 14th. Thanks in advance for your generosity.

Catholic Education Week May 5-10:

Catholic Education week occurs every year in May! This year’s Catholic Education Week theme is, “We are called to love.Catholic Education Week comes at the same time as Mental Health Awareness Week. Through love and compassion, we continue to support each other’s wellbeing. God is love and we are always called to live out this love. In our continued work for Equity and Inclusion in Catholic schools, a focus on love reminds us that all God’s children are loved unconditionally.

Stay tuned for upcoming Catholic Education Week dates, times, and events!

Upcoming EQAO Assessment Dates: Mark your Calendar

Christ the King Grade 6: May 27, 28, 29, 30

Christ the King Grade 3: June 3,4,6,7

Allergy Awareness

Please do not send birthday or other celebratory snacks / cakes / treats into the school. There are many alternatives such as stickers and pencils. We will not be accepting or handing out treats for celebrations. We appreciate the cooperation of the entire school community. We want Christ the King Catholic School to be a safe environment for all students.

Medication

School staff cannot administer medication, including aspirins and Tylenol without a “Request and Consent for Administration of Medication” form, completed and signed by a doctor. It must be in the original container that is labeled, including the instructions and conditions that are to be followed for the administration of the medication for the safety of the child. All medication is stored in the office area. The only exception to this requirement has to do with any child who, because of life threatening allergies (i.e. Asthma), must carry medication.

Track and Field: May 13

As part of their Physical Education program, our students in Grades 4 to 8 will have an opportunity to participate in our school Track and Field Meet, taking place at Saint Benedict Catholic Secondary School, on Monday, May 13th. A letter and permission form will be sent home soon, outlining important information.  Each student is asked to bring the form completed back to school.
Our students have begun circuit training in preparation for the event.  These sessions will help to develop student’s strength, speed, endurance and agility and are crucial for their preparation for the upcoming event. To ensure safety, students must come to school prepared with proper athletic attire, including appropriate shoes.

Today is Administrative Assistant’s Day!

The staff and students at Christ the King would like to say a huge THANK YOU to Ms. McIntosh today on “Administrative Assistant’s Day”.  YOU are the face of our schools.  The first smile that our students and families see when they come to us.  YOU are the medical expert, giving ice, providing tissues and paper towels, handing out medication and inhalers.  YOU are the mental health experts, calming bodies, minds, and hearts with ease.  YOU are the ones that our students go to for everything they need; the ones that all staff go to for everything they need; and the ones that our Administrators go to for everything we need.  YOU at the one.

Today we take the time to thank our Administrative  Assistant, Ms. McIntosh! We thank Ms. McIntosh for her welcoming smile that greets us each and every morning. You are appreciated at Christ the King and want to celebrate with you on your special day!

Reminders of the Week – April 19

Here are some Reminders:

“May the Lord always give us hope for the future and the strength to keep going.”Pope Francis

Hopefully, the April showers are behind us, and now we look for April to bloom around us!  Let us take a moment to express gratitude for the resilience and dedication of each member of our school community. We have an unwavering commitment to learning. Let this month serve as a reminder of the beauty of new beginnings and growth. May we continue to embrace the spirit of renewal and nurture a culture of kindness, curiosity, and collaboration within our school. Wishing you all a joyful and fulfilling rest of April.

Grade 7 Confirmation:

Please keep the Grade 7 students in your prayers as they celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation, tomorrow, Saturday, April 20th – St. Patrick Church 11:00- 12:30 with Bishop Crosby.

Grade 4- 8 Presentation: Parent Viewing

On Tuesday, our grade 4 – 8 students had the opportunity to hear a wonderful speaker and message. Dwayne Morgan spoke to our students in a speech and poetic performance on the following topics: responsibility, social media, phones, race, making good choices, respect between genders, healthy connections and more. It is my hope that parents would take the time to watch this talk and talk about it with their children; it is well worth your time and should benefit your child and even your family relationships. The link will remain posted on YouTube until Sunday night and might be the best thing your family watches or listens to this week. Here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcCWFNQZHyo  Please note that the broadcast was filming much before Dwayne took the stage, please fast forward to the 25:45 mark of the video.

Cell Phones At School: Not recommended

We are reaching out for your continued support in your child’s positive school community and academic learning. We strongly encourage cell phones and ear pods are NOT brought to school. Should a student NEED to bring a cell phone it should be turned off during the day and in their school bag. The only time cell phones are permitted to be used during the school day is with an exception, with teacher permission. We have Chromebook devices for instructional purposes, so cell phones are not needed. We have phones in the office and all classrooms, any communication with students during the day should go through a teacher or the office. Should a student bring a cell phone and/or ear pods to school and they are using them without permission they will be directed to the office and a call home may follow as well.

Cell phones are a normal part of life for many kids. Staying in touch with friends is important to preteens and teens. However, if phone use is getting in the way of family time, homework, and other responsibilities, it might be time to help your kid manage their phone time too. Here are a few great places to start if you are looking for resources too.

Are You Moving?

To help us with our planning for next September, it would be appreciated if you could let us know now, if you will be moving out of our school area over the summer. If you know of any families moving into the area with children who plan to attend Christ the King, it would be helpful if you could alert us. The more information we have, the better we are able to organize staff and students for September. Thanks!

Drop Offs/Pickups: We kindly ask that students make every effort to arrive at school on time for our 8:30am starting bell.  Students can arrive as early as 8:15am to the backyard.  Unfortunately, we continue to see as many as 30+ students trickling in after the bell for approximately a half hour.  Not only is this reflected in their attendance record, we know that when students arrive on time they are able to socialize with peers and walk into class with their friends ready for school.

In addition, while we understand that unforeseen circumstances can arise, we often have to call families at the end of the day due to late pick- ups.  We do not have staff who can supervise students past our bell time.  Supervision and safety past 3:00pm is the responsibility of parents/caregivers. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Reminders for the Upcoming Week

“When we pray, let us recall that we do so with Jesus. Jesus is our courage. Jesus is our security, who in this moment intercedes for us.” – Pope Francis

Here are some Reminders:

Grade 2 : First Communion

We ask you to keep our Grade 2 students in your prayers as they continue to prepare themselves for the Sacrament of First Communion which will take place at St. Patrick Church on Saturday, April 13th at 9:00 a.m. for those students who registered with the Parish.

Spring Emergency Drills

This week we will begin practicing our required three fire drills and lockdown and tornado drill. These drills are extremely important as they help us not only remind our students of the safest and quickest way of exiting the school, but also help us review and revise our plans.

Adults in Building/ Yard

For student safety, we would like to remind all parents and visitors to please use designated waiting areas outside the school yard from 8:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. These measures will help to protect the security of all students as well as help to reduce the congestions at busy drop off and dismissal times. Remember you are a stranger to most students!

It will be Rainy Days, Bobcats!

Good morning BOBCATS!

We are predicting that today and tomorrow will be a rainy day and in order to be prepared for indoor recesses we want to ask you to bring a favourite game or a deck of cards or something else that you can easily set up and clean up, to have some fun with your friends at recess time!

We hope that the rain goes away during recess and we can still get outside, but let’s be prepared!  Do NOT bring something electronic.  Instead, bring something that will allow you to play with your friends, talk to your friends and engage with other people!

Looking forward to seeing you all soon!
