Reminders of the Week – May 17

Here are some Reminders:

Victoria Day : Monday, May 20 – No school/Board Holiday

Just a reminder that Monday is a board holiday and there is no school for staff and students. I wish you a safe and restful long weekend and enjoy this time with your family. We look forward to seeing you back at school on Tuesday.

Playground Equipment/ Gaga Ball

The playground equipment and Gaga Ball pit will be open starting on Tuesday. The WCSB has conducted their spring inspections and we are ready to play!

Safe Footwear

With Spring weather upon us, we are noticing some children coming to school wearing crocs and slides. We want to remind everyone about the importance of safe footwear for all students. Both in the school and outside at recess, crocs, sandals, slides and flip-flops are not safe shoes for students to be wearing. For the safety of everyone, we need your support and assistance in ensuring that your child is coming to school with closed-toe and closed-heeled shoes.

Sun Safety

A reminder to ensure that students are wearing hats and applying sunscreen prior to their arrival at school. Warm weather also increases the importance of consuming plenty of water throughout the day. We suggest providing your child with a refillable water bottle at school each day.

Student Drop-off and Pick up Important Safety Message

Please read the following information and follow our school’s drop off and pick up procedures that have been developed to keep your children, our students, safe. Please reduce your speed when driving on the streets to our school. Our staff and students appreciate your attention to safety!

Vehicles are NOT PERMITTED to enter the parking lot or use the ring road during pick-up/drop off times.

We encourage students to walk to school. It is a great way to get in our steps, improves mental health and lessens our carbon footprint. Parents who choose to drive their children to school may use our Drive to Five option.

Please drop your child off a block or two away from the school (5 min. walk) on the side streets that lead up to Acorn Way. You will avoid contributing to the congestion on Acorn Way and the walk will do your child good – they will be much more alert to begin their day!

PLEASE DO NOT PULL INTO THE PARKING LOT AT THE BEGINNING/ END OF THE DAY. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN AS ALL STUDENTS ARE ENTERING/ EXCITING THE SCHOOL AT THIS TIME.

We can’t emphasize enough the importance of providing a safe place for children to walk when they are dismissed.  We have had a few near misses of students being hit by a vehicle. This is not acceptable, and we need your help to ensure that no one gets injured by complying to the safety regulations. PLEASE, park your vehicle on the street and walk to the arranged meeting place to gather your child.

The Cambridge food bank is in need of food items. In particular, they need breakfast foods (i.e. Cereal, pancake mix, syrup), pasta sauce, canned meats, canned vegetables, and snacks for kids (i.e. fish crackers, granola bars). Please send in what you can so that we can help out those in need. We are collecting items until Friday June 14th. Thanks in advance for your generosity.

Track and Field Today ! (Gr. 4-8)

We are excited to have Track and Field today for our Grade 4-8 students. Just a reminder to dress for the weather as stated previously we are going RAIN or SHINE…hopefully it’s more ‘shine’. The weather app looks like the weather may hold out long enough for us to get some events in.

We want to wish all of our Bobcat Athletes best of luck!

Reminders for the Week – May 10

Here are some Reminders:

“The Loveliest masterpiece of the heart of God is the heart of a mother” – St. Therese of Lisieux

Wishing all of the mothers/ guardians a blessed Mother’s Day!

We had quite an amazing week at Christ the King School. This week was Catholic Education week and was filled with celebrations and opportunities to celebrate our faith and our community together. Bobcats engaged in activities in their classrooms along with the Crowning of Mary Liturgy with Father Joe, our Drama Presentation, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, was a huge success, we also had Chris Bray Perform in concert and Welcome to Kindergarten night for our up and coming Bobcats!  We are truly blessed in Ontario to have an education system that focuses on educating the soul as well as the mind.

Beacon of Hope Award Winner: As in past years, our school board recognizes a student for each school for the Beacon of Hope Award. This awards a student who is an “unsung hero”, a quiet leader, who goes throughout their day being a positive role model in the school. It is our privilege to announce this year’s award winner:  Kyrah- Grade 7.  This is a well-deserved award and thank you Kyrah for all that you do to make our school community a better place through your quiet leadership and positive role modelling.

JOSEPH and the Amazing Technicolor Dream coat

There is quite a buzz in the air today – What an amazing show that we were all able to see this week!  We had family and friends in the audience, student actors on stage, students behind the scenes, and a whole bunch of teacher support throughout the week!  We were able to have a show for the students in the school, invite two other schools and then of course, the two feature presentations in the evening along with some afternoon shows.  What an awesome experience for all involved!

Many Mrs. Kroetch who was involved directly in the set-up and execution of the production and many others were involved in supporting her in various ways.  Many parents were instrumental in the costumes, backstage, and making the CTK ‘Community Theatre’ come to life!  It really was a “whole-school community” event, and we are so proud to be a part of THIS school community!

We want to take a moment this morning to express how thankful we are for sending us your children each and every day.  This performance reminded us how courageous they are – to step on stage in front of large audience of people at a time and sing is absolutely amazing!  To take the chance, many months ago, of saying “Yes, I’ll try that!”, is so inspiring!  The time and energy that it took to practice and perform can not be understated, and once again, the staff and students of Christ the King Catholic Elementary School stepped up and did a wonderful job!

Today is a wonderful day to be proud of your child’s school and the efforts of so many to continue to make wonderful experiences for them. It was just AMAZING…just like Joseph’s coat. ????

Track and Field Meet: MONDAY: Rain or Shine

As part of their Physical Education program, our students in Grades 4 to 8 will participate in our school Track and Field Meet (they must have submitted their permission form), taking place at St. Benedict Catholic Secondary School, on Monday, May 13th.  Students are asked to dress appropriately for several hours outside (wear layers, proper footwear, and gym clothes). At this time, the weather forecast is calling for a high of 10 degrees Celsius (feels like 8) and possibly rain. Please make sure that your child dresses appropriately for the weather and plenty of water.

Attached below you will find an approximate schedule of the track and field events. Please remember that the times on this schedule are only approximate: we may run ahead of schedule, or fall behind. This is a regular part of coordinating and sharing a venue for a sporting event, and staff and volunteers appreciate your understanding. If you are planning to attend the meet, please remain in the stands. This is regular protocol for offsite events as staff focuses on the supervision and safety of students, not the monitoring of spectators. If you wish to watch long jump, please walk around the track (do not cross the track). Thank you for respecting these safety expectations!
